Then the problem about massive interaction in one system, mind you one grid is well know ever since jita piked. The GMs tried in the recent encounter to provide not just a fair fight but a fight at all. Reading all those rumors is fine and dandy but has anyone actually tried to confirm or thought about the fact that the defender might have also gotten clear instructions of how many ppl he is allowed to station in a said system ? Like attackers were told not to jump in anymore ? On another approach its clear to say that the game has its limits. As much as we all love it and as much as we all want things to go smoothly there simply is a limit to everything. Even multiple shard games like WoW have the very same lag issues in populated places like Ogrimmar, Shattrath or when the Dark Portal was opened. Slideshows are not to prevent when enough ppl decide to come to the same place. Ive been angry in the past about this stuff myself but ive used the time to check on other games and if ure honest sometimes uve terrible lag even in fps games or rts games which are played by groups of 20-30 guys per running game.
Last night showed one thing, ccp admits where their limits are and tries to enforce some rules so ppl can fight under those conditions. Anyone complaining about the conditions must really ask themself what they exspected. As another poster said, you gathered 900 guys, were you surprised it would lag or the node would crash ? To scapegoat ccp or the opposition is maybe the easy way out but from a neutral perspective said we all knew where the limits are and we all pushed towards and beyond them to reach our "oh so important" goals. Dont start the blamegame if you got hit by the exspected consequences.
The only possible improvement i could think of, without a huge recoding like the above poster suggested, is to instruct gms to check on the ratios so attackers and defenders share a close to 50:50 ratio. This way we will have epic fights, fair epic fights and everyone effected the same way. Afterall both sides can choose from their vast playerbase the best 350 suitable ships and pilots and think about the possibility of multiple 350 ppl gangs duking it out in different regions if you want "everyone involved" as that is possible too you know.
